My Recordings

Above are my own recordings for our over dubbing of the Iggy Pop Advert.

The Processes Involved

For these recordings I used a zoom which at first I found confusing but as I had used it before this exercise I had the experiance needed to create an advert soundtrack to prefessional standard. We recorded in a studio as we couldn't have any background noise that may interfere with the recording. This meant again that the work was to prefessional standard. The editing didn't take much work as we had recorded in a studio so there wasn't any interference to get rid of. I changed the pitch a lot as I wanteded to get the voise actors as similar to iggy pop as possible.

Final Advert

I am pleased with my advert and feel it has come out well with the exception on one piece of speech missing from little iggy. I feel it is well synced and matches the character. The background sound works wel as a constant beat going through and I'm perticually proud of the noise the simble makes after I overdubbed it.

Director

Sound Storyboard
View more documents from Charlotte Jean

As the sound director for Josh I made him a storyboard outlining the music. I also sent him a copy of my first draft of my advert to help with the timings for my music. Although I didn't tell him the music I wanted I gave him a track that I liked and wanted similar to. After looking on the internet he played me a couple of different tracks he could play on the piano and I chose one I thought suited my advert the most and also one he could play to a high quality.

Sound Diary

Day One
Today I started on my research basically, I went over what my sound designer wanted me to do and used youtube to find some music that I would be able to play and would go with his advert and story board. From looking on youtube I have found that Piano tutorials are really helpful and will use one next lesson when I start actually making the music.

Day Two
This lesson I have gone through youtube and have found the tune I like and Josh will be happy with. I connected the piano through the USB cable to the computer to use cubase and found this really easy to do after a few tries. I have now learned to plug it into the computer before opening the software. Using youtube tutorials makes it really simple to play the piano as I'd never played before and using cubase meant I could move and delete bars which meant that any mistakes didn't matter that much!

Day three
This lesson I was just carrying on with the music and perfecting last weeks so I didn't do anything different from last week although I managed to get set up much quicker which meant I had more time to work on the soundtrack.

Day four
My sound designer was absent today so I was unable to get his thoughts on the soundtrack which meant I couldn't go any further in designing the soundtrack so I did some more editing to my own advert.

Day five

Day Six
Today I finished off the soundtrack for josh's advert as he approved it, I am also happy with the sound track and am very of the outcome and the piano playing as I have never played it before, although we havn't seen the soundtrack and the advert together I am sure they will work perfectly.

Final Advert with Soundtrack

My Evaluation

I am happy with my final soundtrack for my advert and am pleased with how it worked with the advert and how it turned out. I believe I have stuck to the brief set for me and have worked well with Josh. I feel a lot more confident using cubase and feel I could use it a lot quicker in the future and do a lot less messing around. My skills have improved a lot since I started this project and feel I haven't needed much help with the software and have learned a lot through trail and error. I did all the soundtrack through cubase as my client didn't want any voice overs or sound effects. My client needed the simpsons soundtrack so I needed to get this off  youtube. If I was to do this again then I would add some more effects to the music by adding a few different instuments to make it sound more professional.

Josh's Evaluation

The soundtrack which i received from charlotte i was overall pleased with contains what was asked, a simple soundtrack beat which keeps a constant flow throughout and the simpsons them tune which was played as it came on screen which i noticed wasn't the original but a piano sounding one which created a better effect for the advert. The only thing missing was when the piano came on screen the song which was played on the piano wasn't as a soundtrack which i asked for but isn't made to clear that it is out of sync.
